A proper start of the day has a healthy impact on the rest of your day. But rarely do you stop to think about the way you get up in the morning. And so you jump out of bed as soon as the alarm clock goes off. And that’s a pity, because waking and getting up are perfect situations to practise mindfulness.

With this exercise you can break the habit of getting up mindlessly when you awake. Now you will learn to resist the impulse for immediate action – or for wanting to sleep some more – by consciously deciding upon your tempo of getting up.

Getting up in a slow-motion way makes you understand that you are the master of your own body and mind, and that you decide what you do and when you do it. Rather than reacting instinctively and jumping out of bed as soon as your alarm clock, your child or the cat wakes you up, you can now practise to take things in your own hands and be fully aware of every moment of this early morning ritual.

Waking and getting up mindfully and on your own terms gives you the inner peace you need to be able to enjoy the rest of the day.
